If you are internet marketer, you will most like to open this email unless you are top notch earner where you are numb to seeing such email at your inbox.

Normally, this subject line is use by your payment gateway where they automatically sent you an email when you have make a sales online.

But some internet marketers are using this subject line in their marketing email. In the email body text, they will ask you to imagine how nice if you have recieved such email with this subject line every time and how their product or service can help you to realize the dream.

I do not know about others, but i got pissed off by that. Initially, i am excited and i thought i have make a sales. But my excitment turn into disappointment when i read the body text.

Do you think i click on to the promotional link? Absolutely NOT!

Maybe this little email tactic can work on some, but not for all people or rather internet marekter.

Anywhere, it’s up to you if you want to use this little email trick in your email marketing. You may want to test it out and compare the sales result. Ultimately, the sales result speak for itself.

Just a while ago, i have received an email with this subject headline “Item #19 – Notification of Payment Received From Redford White”.

 Did i made a sales?

 No!

This is just a headline that some internet marketer use to entice me to open up the email to read it.   In a nutshell, the email is selling me a make money online package.

Yes, it certainly entice me to read the email with a subject line like this.  So the question here is: “Do this type of subject headline  effective?”

I don’t think so… Why?

When people click on to read the email and notice that this is not a payment receipt but some marketing slogan, they will get piss off.

Do you think people will read your mail content with the right frame of mind if they get piss off?  Just think about it…

What’s the use if you have a high number of click through to read your email but no one actually want to click on your url to read your sales letter?

Have you ever received an email with the subject line ‘Re: blah blah blah….’?

If you read the email content, you will realized that the email does not originate from you.  Normally, when your recipient reply your email, the mailer automatically append  ‘RE’ before the subject line so that you can differentiate between a normal email and a replied email.

If you see a ‘RE:’ at the subject line, you will more likely to read the mail content as you want to find out what your recipient has to say about your original email to him.  It’s always automatic that you will click on such email and read it.

As you subscribe to more internet marketing list, you will realized that some of the emails with the subject line prefix with ‘RE:’ come right from the autoresponder instead.

Ha…. it seen like the internet marketers out there are so desperate for click through of their emails from their clients that they will do whatever it takes, even incorporating this little email psychological trick, just to GET you to read their email.

You cannot blame them as in this age where attention is scarce, you need to think hard and do just about anything to capture your prospect attention.

Attention = Money.  If you can capture their attention, you are in a position to ask for their money.

If you are an internet marketer, you will know that the purpose of a headline of a sales letter is to capture the readers attention and get them to read on…

The subject line of an email has the same objective as a headline.  It’s sole purpose is to capture the attention of the readers and get them to open the email and read on….

As i am an internet marketer, i have subscribed to the newsletters of many other fellow internet marketers and find the subject line that they have used to be pretty amazing….

1.)  Use Plain Text

Only use plain text with no fancy backgrounds, colors, cute little graphics etc.

You want black words on a white background…just like what you see in this blog.  Anything else is to hard to read and cannot be properly handled by some email clients.

2.)  Use A Maximum of 60 Characters Per Line

Don’t type all the way across the page…it’s to hard to read. Plus, some email clients will automatically break the line off at 65 to 70 characters anyway.

This can really ruin the readability of your email especially if you haven’t formatted it correctly in the first place.
 

3.)  Use Short Sentences

Look at the sentences in most emails from Internet Marketer and you’ll notice they are all reletively short.

This makes them much easier to read on your screen.  If you make it easier to read, they will read your email.

Whenever possible, break up your sentences because it makes it easier for someone to consume your message.

4.)  Use Short Paragraphs

The rule of thumb is 4 short sentences.  Anything more is to hard to read and causes the reader to delete your message without even reading it.

Leaving “white space” in between sentences actually helps the “flow” of the message.

It’s easier on the eye and once again, increases the consumption of your message!

5.)   Do Not Use All CAPS

There are a number of reasons for this one.

A.   All caps is considered shouting at your reader.

B.   All caps can make it difficult for reading.

C.   Many of the email filters will bounce emails that use
excessive caps.

So you’ll increase your odds of your emails getting through to your reader and you’ll make it easier for them to read once they get it by eliminating all caps.

6.)   Keep The Entire Email As Short As Possible

Why is all this important to know and use?

There is a major difference when writing emails for personal
and business purposes.

If you are sending emails for business…you want people to read them.

Believe me…most of the people reading them will not read them out of love for you.   You must make it compelling to read (use good headlines) and easy to read (see the 6 steps
above)

7.)   Do not sell on your email but do it on the sales letter only

Once again, i repeat myself.  Do not sell your product on your email to your readers.  The purpose of the email is to get generate enough curiousity on your readers to get them to click on the link to read your sales letter.

Always remember, in direct response marketing, we promote ’one’ thing at a time. We try not to confuse the prospects, as we all know that a confused mind DON’T BUY!

Once again, the sole purpose of your email is to get many of your readers to read your sales letter.  If they read your sales letter from your email, your email campaign is considered closed and successful.

The Internet has created a group of people with very short attention spans.  If it’s not compelling, short and easy…they’ll just move on.

Most of us have a gmail or hotmail or msn email account.  Some of us may have multiple of this free email account.

Have you ever wonder why they are offered to you free?

Why do Google, Yahoo and MSN spent BIG Money to offer you a free email service? ( they need to hire adminstrators, invest in network, servers equipments etc etc…)

They are not charity organisation.  Whatever they do, they need to justify the bottomline.  Yes, they need to make money.

Understand this.  Free email hosting is the most ingenious way to generate traffic to your website.

In a typical social networking site like message board, blog etc, generating massive amount of free traffic is hard to come by.  Why?

If you are not already know, to get massive traffic, your website need to have good content. Not only that, your website must be updated with new and interesting content frequently.  Else, no one will come back to your website again after the first visit.

Blogging is the worst type of content generation platform in term of leverage.  A blogger need to consistantly update his blog with content.  Once he stop, the blog will lost its attractiveness, thus traffic will be drastically reduced.

Message boards can leverage on other subscribers to contribute to the content. However, as most message board facilitators will agree, it is VERY HARD to motivate and keep the ‘energy’ level of their subscirbers to consistently update content on their forum. 

Email is the best way to generate free content.  Most people access the Internet because they want to read their gmail or hotmail or msn mail.  They want to read the emails from their friends or associates or they want to sent out emails to their friends or associates.  Either way, free content is generated.  With targetted free content make available in email, it is no wonder read and writing email is primary the reason why people want Internet access.  This in itself is the ‘traffic’ that most webmasters dream of….

Once their email platform is proven to attract massive traffic, advertisers will then be willing to pay ‘TOP’ dollars for advertising space.  That’s where Google, Yahoo and Microsoft make their money by offering your the free email service.
