I have been reading Joe Vitale latest book “The Seven Lost Secrets Success”… and i must said i am hypnotized!!!

 Since i have embark on my internet marketing journey 1 year 9 months ago, i have always been fascinated with adverting writing and copywriting.  Partly, it may have been the influence of my mentor and friend, Jo Han Mok.

In the book, Joe researched into the work of the American long forgotten advertising genius, Bruce Barton.  Though Bruce is died 41 years ago, but his work in advertising is so SO awesome that we should not ignore it and probably do us good to study them.  Now… i will be a student of Bruce Barton!

Now.. i am reading all the letters or sales letters written by Bruce Barton.

Well… back to the book “The Seven Lost Secrets Success”, i find it a good read and Joe extract 6 winning principles from Bruce Barton that he felt has given him the capability to craft sizzling and hypnotic sales letter.

Among the 6 principles, the fourth one have a greater impact on me.  It’s entitled “Dare Them To Travel The Upward Path”.  Well… it teaches us how to challenge our customers or readers without insulting them. 

One of the example that Bruce use is this “Men Who ‘Know It All’ Are Not Invited To Read This Page!” Whow…who believe that they know it all?  Even if they are someone reading this that believe he knew it all, his curious gland MUST be swollen and burning red. Who can resist not to read the page?

Bruce Barton, even though you are dead, i will still ’salute’ you for your copywriting genius.

Guerilla Business Intensive Mind Blowing Marketing Strategy

This is probably the MOST mind blowing marketing strategy that T. Harv Eker has taught us at the Guerilla Business Intensive.

Harv post a question to us:  “How to get your prospects for the first time?”

Just think about it….  What’s your take?

Spent more money on advertising to get your first time prospects? 

Are you sure?

NO! NO! NO!

What you should do is to offer your first time prospects an *freaking* outrageous offer for FREE!

This strategy is not new to internet marketers but i am not seeing it use on offline business… hmmm maybe one or twice, not much.

Harv illustrates this “outrageous offer” with a ice cream store business in downdown San Francisco

This ice cream man, lets call him Mr X, wanted to increase his profit selling his brand of yummy home made ice cream.  He knew it is awesome, but he is not making much from the business.

So… like as poor marketer, he spent $40,000 to engage some advertising firm to write the sales copy, do all the advertising tasks for him.   Sad to say, the advertising firm did not do a good job.  They advertised in the national newspaper and people will not travel from New York to San Francisco just to eat an ice cream!  Stupid? But this is what the advertising firm has done.  Moreover, the sales copy suck and did not bring in the customers that it supposes to do.

He lost money!

When he consulted Harv, Harv suggests to him to give away his ice cream for free, but for one day only.  This idea alone cause the ice cream owner goes bonker! He is shock!

Nonetheless, he execute Harv marketing plan to the dot.  He sent out mail order written by Harv to the neigbourhood to announce the Free ice cream day. 

On the day itself, thousand upon thousand and thousand of people flock to this small icecream store to get a taste of the ice cream.  As the ice man man served the ice cream, he is also handing out the frequent buyer discount coupon.  The coupon entitled anyone to receive a free ice cream after the 10 purchase.

All in all, he spent $40,000 for offering the free ice cream on that day, but the advertising is going to bring him lot and lot of customers in the future.  Why?

1)  First, thousand of people have tasted the yummy ice cream. Do you not think they will come back again?

2)  Secondly, they have a frequent buyer coupon sitting in their wallet. They want to take advantage of it and thus increase the ice cream sales.

3) Thirdly, it create a viral or word of mouth marketing effect where everyone in town is excited and telling their friends or families about the event.  At the same time, they are building up anticipation when the Free ice cream event draw near.

One of the success of this Free ice cream campaign have everything to do with the copywriting skill that Harv has done on the mail order that are sent out to entice the people to come for the ice cream.

Think about it… if the mail order is not written such that it caught the eyes of the readers and get them to take action to come back to taste the Free ice cream, will the Free ice cream campaign work?

No!  Even though this is a freaking awesome marketing strategy.

So…if you are business owner and internet marketers, you need to learn how to craft a sizzling and converting sales letter.

The One Psychological Lesson That T Harv Eker Taught Me At Guerilla Business Intensive

I have attended the five days T. Harv Eker’s Guerilla Business Intensive from the 25th June to 29th June 2008.

I might said that it is a five days of intensive and value added seminar by peak potential.

As usual, T. Harv Eker is at his best, drilling us with lot and lot of ’street-wise‘ business and marketing lessons and strategies.

Although i have know most of the strategies that is taught at the seminar, i have learned a very important psychological lesson from T. Harv Eker. 

Before the official start of the seminar, Harv asked for all of us to stand up and then he called for those whose annual net income to be less than 50,000 to sit down.  Slowly but surely, he raise the bar, from 50,000 to 100,000, to 500,000 to 1 million and then to 1.5 million.

At this stage, only 5 to 6 people among the 5000 strong attendees are still standing.  Now for the killer words from Harv.  He said this “If you are not earning  1.5m or more annually in your business, then you really do not know some of the strategies that i am going to teach you, even though you ‘think’ you know it.”

Yes, i am not making more than 1.5m dollars per year but i do know most of the marketing strategies that Harv taught.  There is a struggle inside me…. On the one hand, Harv states the undeniable fact that i am not making $1m per year.  On the other hand, i do know most of marketing strategies that Harv is teaching.

Then i see this flash board at the side of the seminar hall.

I can be “right” or I can be “rich”.  Do i want to be right or to be rich? 

 Of course i want to be rich if i can only choose one of them.

Then at this point, it ‘awaken’ the giant within me… and i start to realized that i really do not know those marketing strategies that are taught by Harv, if not, my business will be making me more than $1.5 million a year.

Reflecting on this thought… i realized that i have not apply enough of the strategies to my business, to my marketing to achieve the kind of 1.5 million success that i desire.  Not only have i not deploy enough of these strategies, i do not have the right tools for me to expand my business to a $1.5 million dollars a year business.

Hmm…. this is the moment of realization and rude awakening for me.   A good psychological lesson indeed.

Who are you marketing to? Yes, human being with feeling, emotion etc.

Most of the time, when startup businesses failed, this are the reasons:

1)  Lack of marketing skill and knowledge (marketing is KING in any business)

2) Did not manage the cashflow correctly or mis-managed the cash

3) The founders give up when the ‘going’ is painful

Point number 3 is primary psychology.   This is partly due to the business founders not understanding the important fact that ‘Success breeds Success’. 

Yes, initially, just like in child birth, you will face problems and difficulties in running your business or even internet marketing business.  Do you give up at the first sight of problems?

Understand this.  When you preserver and push through, the momentum will come and you will find your business grow faster than you can ever imagine. 

Just like any internet marketing gurus out there, they work hard and preserver to make their first million dollars online for a long time (say 2 years or more).  After they make their first million dollars, it will find that it is faster to make the next million dollars (say 1 year 6 months) and much more faster to make the next 2 million dollars (say 1 year) and so on and so on. 

The moment you CAN endure the pain and push through, you will find the ’success momentum’ takes control and you and your business will be in a roll.

Jay Abraham’s Greatest Business Strategy

Jay Abraham is a master consultant to grow business.  He is known as the Godfather of direct response marketing.

 If you do not already know, internet marketing is a direct replica of direct responsemarketing.  Internet marketers use a squeeze page to capture their prospects’ name and email address, built relationship with them and increase their anticipation for any email that come from the marketer.

In so doing, the internet marketers can turn them into highly responsive customers who will snatch any offer from them in one single email or sales call.

Direct response marketing is that simple yet it is most effective.  Ultimately, you do not need a PHD to do well in marketing, you need common sense and a focus on simplicity.

I have been reading a book by Jay Abraham entitled “Getting Everything You Can Out OF All You’ll Got” and find that Jay is an absolute genius when it come to marketing. One of his most powerful strategy is the strategy of preminence.

As Jay put it in the book “The Strategy of Preeminence is a powerful yet simple strategy that almost single-handedly can transform any business or career.

So what then is this strategy of Preeminence?  It’s looking beyond the one-time sale. It’s about go the extra mile with your customers to gain their trust and transform yourself as a trusted friend and advisor to them.

This way, you can sell more products and services to them in their lifetime or Jay coined it as the life time value of the customer.  Essentially, it means the value of each customer to your business in their lifetime, if you can keep them as a faithful buyers of your products/services.

The strategy grows beyond the life time value of your customers.  It will generates a multiplier effect of free advertising for you when they refer their friends and families to your business.  Their friends and families in turn introduce their friends and families to your business… and your business will grow exponentially with zero advertising cost.

Isn’t this powerful? You bet.  In offline business, it is called words of mouth advertising.  In internet marketing, it is called viral marketing.

Life Changing Lesson From Adam Khoo’s Wealth Academy

It’s have been two weeks since the last wealth academy which i have join as coach.

Other than investing and business building strategies that Adam Khoo and Conrad have shared with us, there is one particular lesson that i have benefited alot and i would like to share with you here. 

This lessons are so important to me that i have written them down on a postcard and put it up on the wall in my bedroom so that i can see them and read it out loud everyday.

Here’s the lessons.

In life, we can live a life without limit and DO all things if we have the right beliefs.  If not, we will be crippled pschologically and limit ourselves to what we can offer to the world.

Adam has highlighted these three core beliefs that we need to adhere in order to be successful in life.

  1. Believe #1:  We all have the same potential.  If it is possible for others, ti is possible for me.  It’s just a matter of finding the right strategy.
  2. Believe #2: The past does not equal to the future.
  3. Believe #3: When we are committed, there is ALWAYS a way.

When I take look at successful people like Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and even Adam Khoo, i can admire them but most importantly, i must believe that if they can do it, i can do it as well, if not as good.  I do not want to live under their shadow but i want to model after them and nurture the GOD given talents that is within me, the T Yew Heng Chiong’s talent.
