What Does Cold Calling Have To Do With Your Profit Online?


Recently, I have the pleasure of meeting a friend of mine whom I have met while working out at the gym.  His name is Andy. 

Currently, he is working as a property agent.

During our conversation, I pick up a tip on how to soft sell your prospective customers.

Here is the story….In his line of work, he does cold-calling on the phone to reach out for more customers.

Most often than not, when a property agent calls a prospect, the conversation will go like this: “Hi, good morning, my name is Andy and I am representing xxx property house. We are a reputable company around your neighborhood ….. blah blah blah….”

Is this way of selling effective? NO!

Instead, you should start a conversation this way: 

“Hi, my name is Andy. Give me just 5 minutes and i will show you how you can make money from selling other people property in your awesome neigbourhood without even lifting a finger. Is this good or GOOD?”

At this point, if your prospect says no, then offer to giveaway some free information so that you can capture their mailing address. (For you to warmth them up with mail order later on).

You then continue “I have a house to sell in your friendly and fun neighborhood and would like very to find a buyer.  Do you have a friends or relatives that you can recommend to me as potential buyers?  If they make a purchase, I will share with you x% of the commission”

At this point, if he say ‘no’, you can start to ask him if he is anticipating selling his house…..However, if he says ‘yes’, you can discuss your joint venture program with him and later on… ask him if he is selling his house….

Either way, you can further enhance the ’selling’ momentum by positioning yourself as an expert, offering them research result on topic like “why  houses in their neigbourhood are in such hot demand” etc etc.

Essentially, you are telling them a story that they would like to hear.

How will this approach to cold calling effective? There are the ‘why‘:

  1. You approach them by offering something that they stand to gain (making a commission from the recommendation) Remember, people don’t care about you unless they know they have something to gain or what is in for them.
  2. You have warmed them up in the conversation before you poke them with your question of the day “Do you have any intention of selling your house?”

Most importantly, how then can this apply to internet marketing?

When you are launching a new product or selling an affiliate product, instead of sending a series of persuasive emails to your prospect list (not customer list), you can do the following:

  • Sent them an email to sell them an opportunity to make money by joining your affiliate program to promote your product.
  • warm them up by giving away promotional material to make it easy for them to make money from selling your product
  • Last but not least, suggest to them to ‘buy’ your product so that they know how to sell to your product more effectively.

This is the exact same strategy use by many network marketing Company that get you to purchase their products by selling you the opportunity to make money from selling their products.
